What is Psychology?
Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behaviour. It seeks to understand how people think, feel, and act, both individually and in groups. Psychologists explore a wide range of topics, including emotions, cognition (thinking), perception, development, personality, social interactions, and mental health.
There are several branches of psychology, each focusing on different aspects of human experience. Among these disciplines, Clinical Psychology and Neuropsychology are directly involved in addressing both medical and mental health issues, aiming to alleviate mental and physical distress. These fields focus on the holistic impact of health conditions, integrating approaches that consider both mental and physical well-being in their treatment strategies, and are the primary disciplines of Thrive Psychological Services.
- Clinical Psychology: Focuses on diagnosing and treating mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
- Neuropsychology: Looks at the relationship between the brain and behaviour, studying how brain function impacts cognition, behaviour and mood.
Psychology is both a science and a practice, and it is used to help improve individuals' well-being, solve problems, and understand human nature
